Most ATX and microATX motherboards nowadays have 4 DIMM slots, with mini-ITX motherboards usually only having 2 DIMM slots. Now a quick excursion into memory functionality to explain this. Generally speaking any two DIMM slots will function, but since most motherboards nowadays use daisy chain design for memory slots and dual channel, the best performance is probably going to be in slots 2 and 4, aka A2 and B2.
